Did You Know? - Emma Townshend is the daughter of Pete Townshend from the band The Who. Roger Daltrey from The Who also played a role in the TV movie The Magical Legend Of The Leprechauns. Actor Kevin McKidd also had a role in the film, he is better known as Dr Owen Hunt in the television series Grey's Anatomy. 



My little cousin was born on 9th April and since I wanted to write entries that have something to do with her name 'Emma', I started looking out for actresses named Emma, singers named Emma, and films that have characters named Emma. It was then that I realised that although 2 of the biggest names in the film industry share the name 'Emma', I don't really know of many well known 'Emma's in the film and music industry! So I decided to get a little education about the name 'Emma' (God Bless Wikipedia).

In the film industry, we have Emma Watson, made famous by the Harry Potter films (See the post The Perks Of Being A Wallflower), Emma Stone (whose real name is really Emily Jean Stone), Emma Roberts, niece of Julia Roberts (See the post Aquamarine), Emma Thompson, think Nanny McPhee and Professor Sybill Trelawney, and Emma Chambers (an English actress who played Hugh Grant's sister in the film Notting Hill). 

There are also fictional characters like Emma Pillsbury played by Jayma Mays from the television series Glee, Emma Swan, daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming played by Jennifer Morrison in the television series Once Upon A Time, Emma Morley played by Anne Hathaway from the film One Day, Emma Allen also played by Anne Hathaway in the film Bride Wars, Emma Dinsmore played by Kate Hudson in the film Alex & Emma, Emma Woodhouse from Jane Austen's book Emma (a role played by Gwyneth Paltrow in the 1996 film Emma), and the comic book character Emma Frost who has been played by actresses like January Jones in X-Men: First Class and Tahyna Tozzi in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

And in music there's of course Baby Spice Emma Bunton, Emma Hewitt, and Emma Townshend. I remembered a song from a TV movie I adored as a teenager The Magical Legend Of The Leprechauns - 'We Can Fly Away' by Emma Townshend. And I was thinking what an apt song it was for the TV movie. 

Emma Townshend's We Can Fly Away has a very uplifting and light-hearted tune that makes me smile every time I hear it. It has the perfect fairytale-like qualities to the music that not only fits the TV movie it was composed and written for but also the kind of music I love. It also helps that I really string instruments like the violin and piano. I love the sounds the violin and piano produces.

While I could not find an official music video for Emma Townshend's We Can Fly Away, the video to the ending of the TV movie is also quite lovely to watch anyway. It's a HUGE spoiler though. So if you want, watch the TV movie first. 

The Eclectic Reviewer thinks... Emma Townshend's We Can Fly Away will make you feel as if you can really fly away and do or achieve anything. It's a romantic song that I might put on my list of songs I'd play at my wedding, provided I can find a clean copy without the dialogue from the TV movie. Plus, it really reminds me of the kind of Irish songs sung by The Corrs, a band I really love. So it's definitely a song that gets played a lot on my iPod.

Hall Of Fame by The Script (2012)

Do you know what The Corrs, Boyzone, B*Witched, Westlife, The Script, U2, The Cranberries, and Enya have in common? They're Irish! That, and the fact that I enjoy their music of course. 

I'm thrilled that it's finally the month of March! In 19 days, The Script will perform here at the Singapore Indoor Stadium! And I've got tickets to the concert! This would only be the 5th concert I've been to. The first concert I went to was in Sydney. I wanted to go to S.H.E's concert so much that I flew to Sydney from Brisbane to catch the concert. And because I didn't want to go alone, I paid for my friend's ticket too. (Oh and by the way, my friend is an Aussie girl who doesn't really understand Mandarin.)

The Script is an Irish band I noticed in 2008 after hearing their song The Man Who Can't Be Moved. Besides that song, I never really got into their music until their recent album #3. The song that sealed the deal for me with regards to their latest album is Hall Of Fame. The album #3 was released in late last year, and Hall Of Fame is the lead single for the album. 

But what do I like about this song? The lyrics! (I have a thing for songs that start with a piano or violin solo or contains a piano or violin solo in the middle of the song.) The lyrics combined with the catchy and inspirational tune can really lift my spirits up. It gives me strength and motives me because it makes me feel like I can achieve anything, as long as I set my mind to do it.

Recently, this has been my go-to song for inspiration. Because it's a song that helps motive me and remind me that I'm "never gonna know if (I) never even try"!

So what’s the uplifting track actually about?

Music Video:

I love this music video for Hall Of Fame! Although the song is powerful enough on its own without the visuals to explain or get across what it's trying to say, the music video does a fantastic job at portraying the underdog coming from behind to come out on top. It's one of those music videos that you can watch over and over again. And still, each time you watch it, it hits you right in the heart again and again.

The Eclectic Reviewer thinks... The Script's Hall Of Fame is her #1 favourite. It's a great song to listen to when you're feeling the need for a little motivation and to get you all fired up. I also really enjoyed the music video so do check it out!

My Bucket List

You only have one life, live it! Treasure the people around you and remember that every moment you have with them is a gift. 

In the later half of 2012, because of the Korean drama Scent Of A Woman, I started thinking about creating a bucket list of my own. And the first thing I did was to google 'bucket list' and it lead me to Alice's Bucket List. This site belonged to a girl who had terminal cancer. The reason why I use the word 'had' is because she passed away on 12 January 2013. I had only just found out that she has met her maker today. 

Although I didn't know her at all, and I didn't read many of her entries, I can't help but get emotional about her death. Maybe it's because my grandmother on both my father and mother's side died of cancer and so did my great grandfather on my mother's side. And while I cannot make EVERYONE have a bucket list (getting everyone to have a bucket list was one of the things on her bucket list), I can help by doing one of my own.

In my entry about the film A Walk To Remember, I did briefly mention a few things I would put on my bucket list. And truth be told, although there are some things I know I'd want to do before I die, I never actually wrote it down or put it in a list. Is it important to put it in a list? Well, I think it is. When I was an Assistant Producer, I would have a list of things to do for my various projects. The checklist made it easier for me to not only remember the things I needed to do, but also made me actively think about having to check them off my list and when I had to finish them by. 

So! Here goes nothing. 

Monica's Bucket List

4) Live in an underwater colony

For now it's just these 32 items on my bucket list. And I've only done 2 items on this list, but hopefully, one day, I'll get everything done. Although, that might be quite tough, because I'm pretty sure this list will grow. 

Now that I've finally written my bucket list, all that's left is to start checking them off the list. Wish me luck! 

I want to write for the rest of my life.

And with this statement, I have decided for myself that I will make it an effort to practice, practice, practice.

I browsed through quite a number of screenwriting blogs. Many of them belong to aspiring writers who live in USA. Those blogs often chronicle how tough it is to break into the market. And mind you, I live outside of the US. It's a small red dot on the world map called Singapore. So I'd say I have an even tougher road ahead. But, its a fact I cannot deny or take lightly any longer. Especially since I live on the small island of Singapore.

Breaking into Hollywood, be it in Television or Film right now seems like a dream not likely to become a reality. But the first step to reaching where I want to get to in terms of my writing career is to admit how tough the road ahead is going to be and determine how badly I want to get there.

It will be tough. I will be disappointed and I might even become a little depressed about the seemingly fruitless situation. But I have to keep believing that one day, I will reach that goal. My career goal. And this is my practice ground. A place to allow me to flex my creative muscles and writer's mind.

I enjoy film and television. I grew up watching Hollywood films, American Television series, Taiwanese idol dramas, and local Singapore Television dramas. Music is also something that I enjoy. I love listening to the soundtrack of a series or film. It vividly reminds me of the scenes I love from the film or series. As you can see, the common thread of where my interest lies is in two words - Film and Television. Under a broader umbrella, I'd say that I have an interest in entertainment and leisure.

Entitled to Opinion is a place where I will review, comment, and give my personal opinion and thoughts on everything and anything that strikes my fancy. Anything.
