Read about 'Saturn Returns' the fifth episode of Beauty And The Beast.

Episode 6 - Worth

Just be honest. I always feel that in any relationship, especially a romantic one, honesty is the best policy. And communication is key. Unfortunately we are all not mind readers. But because we are not mind readers, it is even more important that you tell your loved ones how much you love them. Misunderstanding arise from the lack of proper communication. And that is what this episode's all about. I hate playing guessing games. I dislike not knowing. That is why if I have feelings for someone, and I don't know if that person reciprocates the feelings, I will put myself out there and ask. Although I would very much like the guy to make the first move.

Anyway, I really dislike Evan. There's something about him I really don't like. It's more than just because he's a possible threat to Vincent and Catherine getting together, but I haven't figured out why yet. Oh and I like the loved-up JT. Plus the fact that he's such a good friend I really would love to see him find love too.

Also, I was really thrilled to see that it was Rachel Skarsten who plays Brooke (Catherine's dad's fiancĂ©e). You see, besides Beauty And The Beast, I was also hooked onto another series called Flashpoint this year. And Rachel Skarsten plays one of the leads' sister in Flashpoint. And I always love it when I recognise actors from various other movies or television series.

Vincent: You don't have to give me an explanation.
Catherine: So you did see it... Because Vincent it was just a stupid drunken
Vincent: You can kiss whoever you want.
Catherine: No. Yeah. I know that... It's not like we're...
Vincent: No... No it's not. I'm really sorry about dinner...

JT: Is this about her kissing that guy the other night? You were thinking about Catherine and some jerk in a lip lock, adrenaline kicks in, your heart rate increases, long story short, you fugued out because you're jealous.

Vincent: Fugued out?
JT: Fugue. You're up and walking around but its like you got amnesia.
Vincent: Okay wait. Jealousy cannot cause memory loss, besides I don't have a right to be jealous anyway.
JT: For your advice, take a chance and tell her how you feel.
Vincent: Okay wait... wait, wait, wait, wait, who are you right now?
JT: Look I know I've been the president of the 'Stay away from Catherine club' but she's only going to wait for you for so long before she moves on.

Rachel Skarsten in Beauty And The Beast.
Catherine: So what do you think?
Tess: It's nice.
Brooke: It's a lovely shape and it will match the flowers perfectly. It looks like a leprechaun ate too many marshmallows.
Catherine: Yes it does.
Tess: Okay, all of the men coming to your wedding should thank you.
Brooke: Speaking of, your dad said you're bringing a date to dinner tonight.
Catherine: Oh Evan? Oh, he's just that friend I brought to your engagement party.
Tess: Oh ya, that friend that you just kiss sometimes.
Catherine: He kisses a lot of people.
Brooke: So did your dad.
Catherine: Wow! I really don't need to hear the rest of that paragraph.
Brooke: Well I'm just saying when the right person comes into your life, people can change.
Catherine: Let's just say that serial dating isn't my only issue.
Brooke: Look, I'm half your dad's age, my parents think I'm crazy, his friends think I'm a gold digger, he has two very opinionated daughters, one of whom is warming up to me like it's the ice age. On the surface there are all these obstacles, but for the right guy, it's worth ignoring them.

Catherine's Dad: Catherine, have you ever stopped to ask yourself why I didn't tell you about her divorce myself?
Catherine: I am worried about you.
Catherine's Dad: Because no one's worthy in your eyes. Now this judgmental attitude may make you a good cop, but it also makes it very difficult to have a relationship with you.

Catherine: I'm still holding out for Prince Charming.

Daphne: If you're looking for love, take it from me, it never works out. Prince Charming is a liar.
Catherine: Can't believe the artist died in here. Did you know him? I heard that he was in love with one of the girls.
Daphne: I met him, once or twice. Acted like he was a sensitive artist, but he was in love with a lot of girls.
Catherine: Really? I heard over at the bar that he applied for an apartment two days ago, wanted to move in with his girlfriend.
Daphne: I hadn't heard that. Excuse me, you know they don't like it when we stay in one place for too long.

"This man, he loved this woman." Yes he did indeed...
Catherine: Nicholas' mum said that his girlfriend broke up with him. Maybe Daphne's just his model.
Vincent: It may have started that way but it became more. Look at the way he captured her, the curve of her back, the softness of her skin. He spent every waking moment painting her. She was in every brush stroke. I know I'm not the detective here, but this man, he loved this woman. Maybe there was someone else, someone who didn't want them to be together.
Catherine: But they weren't together. She said he loved a lot of girls.
Vincent: I find that hard to believe. Maybe she doubted him, the way he felt about her.
Catherine: But if he loved her so much, why did she push him away?
Vincent: She didn't feel worthy.
Catherine: How can you be so sure?
Vincent: Because I know what it feels like.

"Who you are, it makes everything worth it."
Catherine: I waited all night for you.
Vincent: When I left?
Catherine: No, not tonight. When you didn't show up for dinner. But seems like that's what I do the most with my time these days. Wait for the next moment I get to see you. Vincent it never even occurred to me that you didn't know that you are the best thing in my life right now. I guess seeing me kiss another guy doesn't really help my chances.
Vincent: I don't know how to do this. You know that artist's studio was like six blocks from where I grew up. Being back there, it kinda got me thinking about who I used to be. You know if that Vincent Keller had seen you with another guy he probably would have smacked him square in the mouth.
Catherine: Does it make me a terrible person to admit that I'm glad the thought crossed your mind?
Vincent: Nope. Who I am makes everything seem impossible.
Catherine: No. Who you are, it makes everything worth it.

My favourite quotes: "Who you are, it makes everything worth it.", "On the surface there are all these obstacles, but for the right guy, it's worth ignoring them.", & "I'm still holding out for Prince Charming."

Beauty And The Beast: Episode 1x05 - Saturn Returns (2012)

Created by: Sherri Cooper and Jenifer Levin

Network: The CW

Cast: Kristin Kreuk (1), Jay Ryan (2), Max Brown (3), Austin Basis, Nina Lisandrello, Brian White (4), Sendhil Ramamurthy (5), and Nicole Anderson (6)

Read about 'Basic Instinct' the fourth episode of Beauty And The Beast.

Episode 5 - Saturn Returns

I found the exchange between JT and Vincent kinda funny in the opening of episode 5 because JT feels like he's a nagging mother to Vincent. Which is ironic because of the difference in size and strength. But, as much as this show is about the 'beauty' and the 'beast', I find myself very drawn to the brotherly and unconditional love between JT and Vincent. All the sacrifices JT has made for Vincent, the bond they share is incredible! I think the only reason why Vincent is still alive and sane is because of JT. Actually, this kinda reminds of my SS members, they keep me sane when I go nuts because of work.

Now on to the actual episode, I love it, but I also hate.

I love it cos the feelings that Vincent and Catherine have for each other is SO obvious! This secret kind of, we-like-each-other-but-don't-want-to-put-a-label-on-it type of love is so delicious. Especially for the love-deprived girl hidden deep inside me.

Why I didn't like it? Cos Evan kissed her, and cos I dread not knowing what's wrong with Vincent - especially since it made him miss his date with Catherine, which in turn made her misunderstand that he wasn't interested in taking the next step. ARGH!

Another reason why I love this episode is because I so happen to be able to connect with it on a very personal level. It is purely by chance, but my birthday is in exactly 10 days. But because I'm crazy busy at work this entire month until 11th December, my good friends (aka my 'sisters') have planned a 2 day 1 night trip to Bintan for me. It's just going to be a nice comfy villa with 4 of my best friends in the world there. I'm turning 30 in 10 days and for the longest time my 'sisters' kept telling me I should have a huge 30th birthday bash. And I'm like 'No way!' So we settled on a nice quiet weekend trip. BUT... I digress.

Something she said about her birthday really resonated with me. You will find the dialogue if you just scroll down a little. You know how Facebook allows you to put your relationship status as complicated. I think 'complicated' aptly describes what Vincent and Catherine's relationship is at the moment. Neither here nor there. And it's killing me! But if they got together now, there wouldn't be much of a series now would it. So I'm going to be patient and painfully wait for the day they finally admit their feelings for each other. No more hinting, no assumptions, and no more misunderstandings or doubts. Just pure unadulterated passion that will push aside all their uncertainties and make them realise how much they love each other.

At episode 5, I have usually make the decision to carry on watching a new series or drop it like a hot potato. For Beauty And The Beast, it's obvious isn't it. I'm hooked! Good and truly hooked! I'm a sucker for romance, and while it looks to me that Evan is going to be coming in between Vincent and Catherine, I am hoping and praying to the writer-gods of the show that they will put me out of my misery by the end of the first season.

As for the cases, while I think their cases aren't very interesting or unique, I like that the cases compliment the storyline between Vincent and Catherine and sometimes JT. Instead of the writers trying to focus on both. That being said. Next Thursday, can you come by faster!!! On the bright side... YAY!!!! Beauty And The Beast has been officially picked up for a full season!

Ouch! He saw the kiss...
... and he's obviously affected by it and really upset.
Okay I don't know why but when I first saw this scene,
my thoughts went straight to The Vampire Diaries and the
love triangle between Elena and the Salvatore brothers.
JT: What the hell is going on here? You're putting grooves in the floor.
Vincent: I need to get some air.
JT: Open a window. What's got you so amped up? Oh, you must have seen Cat. That's why you came home so late isn't it, you were with her.
Vincent: For a little bit, yeah. I know what you're gonna say man, but JT, she makes me feel like, like I have a life again.
JT: Awfully dangerous for a guy who's supposed to be dead. Seriously where are you going?
Vincent: For a walk.
JT: Stick to rooftops where its safe.
Vincent: I'll be back soon.
JT: Nope. If you're going out, I'm coming with you.
Vincent: No, no that is a bad idea.
JT: That makes us even.

Checking to see Catherine's reaction to JT
telling her that he feels alive since meeting her.
Catherine: You guys have to be more careful.
JT: Urm... Me, choir. But seems that since he met you, Vincent feels alive. He thinks he can have a normal life and walk on sidewalks and stuff. You know who can't do that? Guys with death certificates. You know what we should do...
Catherine: Not we, me. It's the benefit of having someone on the inside. I'll call the local precinct and make sure there's nothing else on that surveillance tape.
Vincent: Er... that would be great but I think he's talking about Phase B.
Catherine: You seriously have something called Phase B?
JT: What if she's right? What if someone catches on to that photo. We've never taken the precautions we should around here, and if you're gonna go for walks, we need better security in case someone follows you home.
Vincent: Great! As if my life isn't walled up enough already.
JT: I'll start the inventory of what we need to steal from campus.
Catherine: I didn't hear that.
JT: I didn't say it.

Catherine: As I got older, I thought that I understood more about life, and now it's like I've crossed this line and the world doesn't make sense anymore. My birthday used to be so simple. My mum she made me pancakes for dinner. And she'd buy me a new pair of flannel pajamas and we'd just watch old movies. I guess I, I'm not in the mood to play truth or dare with my friends when I spend most of my days lying to them, about where I've been, who I've been with.

Catherine: It's a date.
(I love the expression on his face when he heard that.)

Catherine: Not a, not a date, date.
(I love her reaction when she realised what she said.)
Vincent: You're not spending your birthday on your own are you? You at least need a pizza or a movie or something.
Catherine: Are you buying?
Vincent: Theoretically, yes. Technically, no. That would be JT, the one with the paycheck.
Catherine: You're offering me an entire night where I don't have to make up lies.
Vincent: Yeah, I figured you could use a break from it. I'll see you at 8.
Catherine: It's a date. (Vincent stops what he's doing and looks at Catherine.) Not a, not a date, date.

=P I love the goofy smile on his face. Finally, JT smiles!
JT: What am I supposed to say?
Vincent: Er... how about yes.
JT: Er... Wake up Vincent.
Vincent: Er... finger.
JT: Coffee leads to lunch, lunch leads to dinner, dinner leads to drinks, and we all know where that leads.
Vincent: Exactly. And you could do with some of that.
JT: And what am I supposed to say after 3 months of dodging, she can't come see my house because...?
Vincent: I don't know, because you live with your parents?
JT: Oh that's stud-ly, that will get me laid. Thanks.
Vincent: Okay what if she was trustworthy? Okay if she was someone special that knew about us and understood.
JT: I did that. Remember? I was that trustworthy friend, lasted about a year.
Vincent: JT...
JT: I had roommates and a girlfriend. They start asking questions and you get caught lying to people you love about where you've been and what you've been doing. It's not a choice. You can never leave this secret behind, it's a lot easier to leave your life. I'm not trying to make you feel bad. But bringing someone else in, like Sarah?
Vincent: She might understand.
JT: First, she'll tell the little lies, and she'll start brushing off a friend here and there. It's impossible to avoid, you know that. If we actually care about someone we can't let them give up their world to live like this in ours.

Buddies talking about their sucky love life. Poor guys.

Vincent: Keeping a secret like this, it really takes a toll on a life. I mean, we didn't know what we were getting into back then urm.. but we really do now.

Catherine: Vincent...
Vincent: Well I didn't save you all those years ago for you to hide out in a dusty old warehouse. You know JT and I haven't celebrated a birthday in 10 years. I mean who would we invite anyway? Go to your party, you're lucky to have.
Catherine: Vincent, I just wish you could be there.
Vincent: You have a life. Go on. Go live it.

=) BFFs. I really love this shot of the two of them here.
To all my friends who accept me for me and for
being goofy with me, thank you and I love you too. =)
Catherine: Thank you for the gift. I found it on the fire escape but I wanted to wait and open it with you.
Vincent: How was your birthday?
Catherine: Actually it was horrible. I was standing there with my sister and all of my friends and all of these people who supposedly know me, and they don't, know me, they don't really know me anymore.
Vincent: Your life isn't here Catherine.
Catherine: Half of it isn't. And I know because in the other half, I have to lie to everyone. Act like I'm doing things I'm not, watch every word I say, put up walls and then remember where I've put them.
Vincent: Hmm..
Catherine: I realised that what I wanted for my birthday was to sit across from someone that I don't have to pretend with. That's you.
Vincent: No I can't ask...
Catherine: You're not. Vincent I want to have you over for dinner, pull down the blinds, just sit down, have a glass of wine, not have to watch my every move, just be.
Vincent: The only reason you have to watch your every move is because of me. Besides I'm not the guy for that. You need the normal guy that can show up to the birthday party.
Catherine: What makes you think I want a normal life? What I do, it isn't up to you. It's my choice. Not yours. My sister's going out. I'll have dinner by 8 and unless there's something else holding you back, I hope to see you there.

I really like this shot of her cooking.
I have a feeling its the kind of storyline where Vincent is very ill or dying
and he'll stay away from her because he's dying and there's no cure for it.
Okay, I obviously watch too many Korean dramas.
I hate misunderstandings. And I don't think this misunderstanding
and assumption that Vincent doesn't like her more than a friend
is going to go away any time soon. And that sucks!
Now Singaporeans would know who Felicia Chin is. I think this shot of
Kristin Kreuk really reminds me of Singaporean actress Felicia Chin.

My favourite quotes: "Your isolated prison is starting to feel like my escape these days", "You can't assume what's right for him.", "What makes you think I want a normal life?", "Go to your party, you're lucky to have." & "You have a life. Go on. Go live it."

Beauty And The Beast: Episode 1x04 - Basic Instinct (2012)

Created by: Sherri Cooper and Jenifer Levin

Network: The CW

Cast: Kristin Kreuk (1), Jay Ryan (2), Max Brown (3), Austin Basis, Nina Lisandrello, Brian White (4), Sendhil Ramamurthy (5), and Nicole Anderson (6)

Read about 'All In' the third episode of Beauty And The Beast.

Episode 4 - Basic Instinct

Hmm, I just realised that what I love most about this series is the relationship between Vincent and Catherine. And this episode, their relationship sort of hit a snag. Previously, Catherine would follow her instincts and no-questions-asked put her faith in Vincent. However, in episode 4, her faith is questioned and she has real doubts for the first time.

Although it wasn't my favourite episode because their "relationship" didn't seem to be going so well, but I think it was necessary. We all doubt that our decisions or feelings about someone is wrong, that is natural, and I guess it has to happen sometime. I think this episode made Murifield more real than before, we are given more hints as to what Vincent has done, what Murifield's connection to Vincent is (as revealed in the cryptic line from Vincent "I'm ready to come back"), and the fact that Catherine's mum IS connected to Murifield.

One thing though, I loved how Catherine and JT had to work together to "save" Vincent. I think that's one other relationship in the show worth exploring.

Poor guy - "The world can think the worst of me,
but it hurts the most when it's you who thinks that way."
Vincent: You're afraid of me. Last night I thought it was Muirfield, but it was me.
Catherine: Understand that I am a cop, I put people like you away.
Vincent: You're trying to decide if I belong in a cage.

It's so sweet that he tries to protect JT and Catherine by giving himself up.
Catherine: Anything?
JT: No it just rings. He left this.
Catherine: Proof I existed?
JT: Insurance. In case something happens to us I'm supposed to send it out to the world.
Catherine: I had their phone number.
JT: And you lost it?
Catherine: I left it in my apartment, he probably took it.
JT: Great! Now what do we do?
Catherine: I couldn't see the plates on the SUV, there was no address at the warehouse. My car! (Catherine digs through her bag and pulls out a tube of foundation)
JT: Make-up? Now? Really?
Catherine: I need chalk. There was another agent, he drove my car, he must have left prints. All we need to do is lift them, send them through the system, track his phone, and then we're there.
JT: He'll be dead by then.
Catherine: Do you have a better idea?

I love her kick ass stunts! Plus it's nice seeing JT & Catherine
working together to "rescue" Vincent. I had a kick out of seeing JT
wield a bat and go after one of the agents. I like that JT ain't no wimp.
JT: Seriously how long does it take to match a fingerprint?
Catherine: We just sent it in.
JT: Call the CSI guy again.
Catherine: CSU! CSI is a TV show.

JT: What the hell was he thinking? After everything we've been through, after everything we've done.

Catherine: You ever afraid of him?
JT: What?
Catherine: That he's going to hurt you.
JT: No. I've known him my whole life. I mean, it freaks me out when he's like that, but he'd never hurt me.
Catherine: How do you know?
JT: I just know. (Catherine's phone rings) We got him?
Catherine: Just a second. (Catherine types a number into the computer)
JT: I'm having a heart attack... I'm having a heart attack right now!
Catherine: Okay we got him, let's go.
JT: Still gonna have a heart attack.

Dating (sort of) the old fashioned way. I love it!
Vincent: Game ball.
Catherine: You were there?
Vincent: It was a nice home run.
Catherine: This isn't a typical situation. I'm used to things being black and white and this is just... it's grey. The things you've done...
Vincent: I hate myself for them...
Catherine: I know that, and I know that you can't control it, and that you have a good heart... but I'm gonna have questions.
Vincent: Look, for the first time in a long long while, I felt like new things are possible for me. But Catherine, the way that you looked at me in the park that night, everything came crashing back. The reality of what I am and what I have done. The idea that you and JT are paying the price for it, that you are collateral damage because of me. That is why I gave myself in.
Catherine: You know that first night we met, in the woods. I knew that you would never hurt me. That was my gut. I'm sticking with that.
Vincent: I wish this was easier.
Catherine: Yeah. I do too.

My favourite line: "CSU! CSI is a TV show."

Beauty And The Beast: Episode 1x03 - All In (2012)

Created by: Sherri Cooper and Jenifer Levin

Network: The CW

Cast: Kristin Kreuk (1), Jay Ryan (2), Max Brown (3), Austin Basis, Nina Lisandrello, Brian White (4), Sendhil Ramamurthy (5), and Nicole Anderson (6)

Read about 'Proceed With Caution' the second episode of Beauty And The Beast.

Episode 3 - All In

Okay, episode 3 shows more about the growing relationship between Vincent and Catherine. I like that she drags him into helping her on one of her cases and that she helps him remember who he was. The way she calms him down when he’s in beast-mode, it really is very sweet. They even have couple-like fights and conversations. They obviously care a lot about each other. And although they’re not actually together, together, or officially, they sure do act like it. Also, JT gets the funniest lines and dialogue. He is fast becoming my favourite character in the series!

Reminds me of Avatar's "I see you" and also in the storyline
between Grey Anatomy's Owen Hunt and Cristina Yang.

JT: Do you not have a job? What are you doing here?
Catherine: Okay I know its risky but it’s just I had no other way to reach him, I can’t go to the warehouse, he doesn’t have a phone, no email…
JT: Yeah, no Twitter either. You know why? He can’t have any followers. Everyone needs to believe he’s dead or he will be, for real.
Catherine: Okay it’s just that we said we’d be in touch and I haven’t heard from him in like a week so…
JT: What? He hasn’t called? You know they say that if you haven’t heard from him in 3 days, he’s just not that into you, I’d move on.
Catherine: JT I…
JT: Do you not understand what’s going on here? He’s a genetically engineered killing machine…
Catherine: That is why I’m here. You’re not the only one who worries about him okay. I hadn’t heard from him, I just wanna to make sure that he’s okay.
JT: He’s fine.
Catherine: Okay.
JT: Why are you still standing here? (Catherine grabs a pen and notepad from JT’s pocket)
Catherine: Can you just give this to him?
JT: How are you? You risk this for a ‘How are you?’ Just sign all of our death certificates, ‘How are you?’

JT: So you and Catherine have decided to keep in touch.
Vincent: Carefully.
JT: So now I’m a carrier pigeon passing notes like I’m back in high school. What?
Vincent: Apparently not tonight.
JT: She’s here? So carefully means not careful at all.
Vincent: JT come on.
Catherine: Hey.
Vincent: Hey.
Catherine: I got your note.
JT: What note? You already wrote her back?

There's something sweet, romantic and "old school" about writing notes.

Catherine: You know I think I’ve had unrealistic expectations that you can communicate or be in the outside world.
Vincent: I wish I was Batman too.
Catherine: No I just wish you were a normal guy.
Vincent: Ouch.
Catherine: That was not what I meant.
Vincent: Without all the baggage.
Catherine: Okay what I am trying to say badly is that I get it. In order to be in contact with you it has to be on your terms. It’s just hard. But I’d like to make it work.
Vincent: Then maybe we need to revise the terms, just in case.
Catherine: You wanna help again. Okay here’s one. We can’t go by without one of us reaching out to say ‘I’m still alive’.
Vincent: Fine. But my place, you can’t go there, unless it is a dire emergency.
Catherine: How am I supposed to know what qualifies as a dire emergency?
Vincent: You call me and you ask. Don’t get too excited. It’s only good for 3 more days.
Catherine: Then what happens?
Vincent: Then we play that one by ear.

My favourite line: “I’m not Batman, I don’t watch over the citizens of New York.”

Arrow (2012)

Developed by: Greg Berlanti (1), Marc Guggenheim, and Andrew Kreisberg

Network: The CW

Cast: Stephen Amell (2), Katie Cassidy (3), Colin Donnell, David Ramsey (4), Willa Holland (5), Susanna Thompson (6), and Paul Blackthorne.

Did you know? - Justin Hartley, the actor who played Green Arrow in Smallville, is actually starring in a new series this season as well. A medical drama called Emily Owens, M.D. featuring Mamie Gummer, Michael Rady, and Necar Zadegan.  Oh and Emily Owens, M.D., Arrow, and Beauty And The Beast are all airing on The CW.

Superheroes. I never had a thing for them. I wasn’t into Batman, Spiderman, or any of the X-Men. If not for my love of television and film, I probably would have never discovered these superheroes. I can’t tell which superhero is under the Marvel universe and which go under the DC Comics banner. As such, my thoughts on the television series Arrow don’t take into consideration the superhero comic world but just, as it is – a television series.

Everyone knows Batman and Gotham City. So basically in the TV series Arrow, the Batman-like character is in fact the Green Arrow, and instead of Gotham City, we have a very corrupt Starling City. Oliver Queen, played by Stephen Amell, gets stranded on an island for five years and when he is found and returns home to Starling City, he becomes the vigilante Green Arrow by night, and resumes his playboy character by day. Now there’s always a woman involved in things like this. Katie Cassidy plays Laurel Lance, Oliver’s ex girlfriend who is a lawyer. Nope she’s not his sidekick and neither is John Diggle, played by David Ramsey, although Diggle does take up his offer to help him clean house in Sterling City. There’s also Oliver’s sister Thea played by Willa Holland, his mum Moira who seems not quite innocent herself played by Susanna Thompson, and there’s Oliver’s best friend Tommy and Laurel’s father Quentin who is a Detective.

Now, it’s a superhero-themed series, so there’s lots of action, killing, and it’s almost like a case of the week type of thing going on. To be honest, I wonder how long is this hit list that Oliver’s got. Does he have enough to sustain more than one or two seasons? I never took to Smallville, so I can’t say I know how they managed to sustain 10 seasons without compromising the content or if it worked or didn’t work. To be honest, this is the first superhero-themed television series that I have taken an interest to. However, I have a very strong inclination to check out Smallville right now.

Arrow also kinda reminded me of Kick-Ass. I guess it's because of what Aaron Johnson's character Dave says - "At some point in our lives we all wanna be a superhero" that made me think of the connection between Arrow and Kick-Ass, and I think this is what Oliver Queen thinks every day as the Green Arrow "With no power comes no responsibility. Except that wasn't true". Well, he sort of has power, not super powers, but still he has the means and ability to make a change and he cannot run away from that responsibility.

Now, the list of people Green Arrow is targeting makes the show seem a little procedural. However, I think its necessary and it works for the series. It gives us an insight to the world of the series as well as the various characters in the show. As of now, there have been just 4 episodes just like CW’s other new series Beauty And The Beast, which I love. And I think the network’s got a good thing here with Arrow, and I think they recognise that too and that’s why they’ve given the order for a full season. (Now I wish they’d just give the order for a full season for (Beauty And The Beast and Emily Owens, M.D.).

Let’s talk cast. The lead. Stephen Amell, is a really good actor, well that’s what I think anyway, based on what I’ve seen so far in the series. I think he does a really good job of pretending to be a playboy and when we get the behind the scenes look of him being worn down by living separate lives as Oliver Queen and as the Green Arrow, I can empathize with him. Kind of reminds me of Dexter, where the lead threads a very thin line between what is right and wrong in the eyes of the law and ethically. What he can do physically is also amazing! The stunt work, not the six-pack! Although don’t think I didn’t notice his hot bod too. I guess to have a BIG female fan base, you need a good looking and hot lead. Oh, and if you don’t already know, I am a sucker for all things related to archery, chess, and ice hockey. (PS: I love the bow Oliver Queen owns!)

The leading lady Katie Cassidy – there’s something about her that I haven’t warmed up to yet and I also haven’t quite put a finger on why yet. But, she’s a done a decent job as Laurel. Now, leading ladies in any series usually have a dual role as the romantic interest and the on screen sparks between Stephen Amell and Katie Cassidy haven’t really exploded yet for me. I like their characters individually, and I love the way she holds her own but is still vulnerable at times. But, maybe the characters aren’t supposed to really spark together right now, that’s why I’m not really feeling it with regards to Oliver and Laurel. I can feel Oliver’s feelings for Laurel and his dilemma regarding her. I just don’t quite feel like Laurel feels the same way for Oliver. Well not yet I guess.

I love Diggle! He’s great as a moral compass for Oliver and I am so looking forward to more of their relationship in the series. And David Ramsey who plays Diggle does a fantastic job. I think the other two ladies on the series also deserve a mention because they are doing such an awesome job. In fact, considering it’s the Borg Queen herself (from the series Star Trek Voyager), I shouldn’t have been surprised at her role of not-so-innocent mum Moira.

I am looking forward to more of Arrow, and if you haven’t checked it out, please do so. Now the style, we find out more about Oliver’s 5 unexplained 5 years through lots of flashbacks. And it works, I’m glad they are doing it bit by bit. Feeding us enough information for us to follow the story and the current situation. It’s also a good way to keep drawing the audience to stay on for the next episode and the episode after that.

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

Episode 1: The first episode did a good job of drawing me into the story. Obviously, since I’m still watching it and it’s episode 4 already. I like that it clearly defines most of the characters so we know how the reappearance of Oliver affects all the people crucial to the story. And after this first episode, I am curious to find out how can a mother and wife have the heart to betray her husband and son. It makes me want to know more about this wrong Oliver has to right and how much Moira is involved with.

The book. The hit list.
Raisa: You are different. Not like you to read a book
Oliver: I’ve missed you Raisa.
Raisa: No kitchen on the island?
Oliver: No. No friends either. (takes the tray of food from Raisa) Hey, thank you. Do I really seem different?
Raisa: No, you’re still a good boy.
Oliver: Oh I think we both know I wasn’t.
Raisa: But a good heart.
Oliver: I hope so. I want to be the person you always told me I could be.

The Green Arrow in action. I really quite like
the camera angles and shots used in the series.
Another camera shot I really like.
I have a thing for the way our planet looks. It's so pretty.

Episode 2: “You don’t have to go outside the law to find justice.” Do you believe that? That is the recurring theme of Arrow. The Green Arrow is breaking the law to do good. Is he doing the right thing or wrong thing by doing what he’s doing? I have found the characters and relationships that is going to draw me further into the series. Diggle & Oliver, Oliver & his sister Thea, Oliver & Laurel.  More of Diggle’s personality and background is revealed in this episode and I like the dynamic between Oliver and Diggle. He is someone who ‘gets’ Oliver. And I think Oliver needs that.

"Home is a battlefield. Back home they’re all trying to ‘get you’. Get you to open up, be somebody you’re not sure you are anymore. Or I could be wrong. Maybe after 5 years alone, you’re not as messed up in the head as you have a right to be."
- John Diggle

I always wanted an older brother, someone like Oliver would have been perfect!
Oh and don't you think Thea, played by Willa Holland, looks a little like Claire Forlani?
"Sometimes when I felt, whatever, I’d come here. About a month after the funeral, mum stopped going out. Pretty soon she stopped talking altogether. The house got so quiet, so I’d come here, to talk to you. I mean stupid stuff, like what I was doing that day, what boy I had a crush on, and then sometimes I’d ask you, beg you to find your way home to me. Now here you are. And the truth is, I felt closer to you when you were dead. Look I know it was hell where you were. But it was hell here too. You got to let me in Oli, you got to let someone in."
- Thea Queen

Okay, I kinda do want them to get back together.
And I love a man who can protect the woman he loves.
Oliver: I’m a jerk. Before the island I was a jerk. And now I’m just a, I’m a damaged jerk.
Laurel: What’s in the bag?
Oliver: I thought about many things on the island, but there was one thing that I thought about everyday. I actually dreamed about it. And I promised myself that if I ever got the chance to do it again, I’d do it with you. Eat ice cream.
I think Kelly Hu is an awesome actress, can't wait to see more of her in Arrow.

My favourite lines: “Oliver, you’re an adult, you can say ‘No’.” & “I didn’t know how painful it would be to keep my secrets.”
